Theo Thomas, Thames21

Theo works for Thames21, a charity dedicated to working with people to protect their local rivers and canals. Theo started the Love the Lea campaign because the rivers in the Lower Lea Valley are among the most polluted in Britain, but too few people knew about it.

Love the Lea tests the water quality of rivers like the Moselle (poor), raises awareness of the problem and what we need to do to solve it. “We have a right to clean water and healthy rivers. It’s a scandal that every river in the Lower Lea Valley is so sick. Our link to our rivers is broken and unless we can fix it we risk our own health as well as the environment’s”.

Theo has worked for Thames21 for 11 years. Before that he was a reporter and producer at BBC Radio Leicester.
